Ah-Nung Matrious

My name is Ah-nung Matrious and I am a 19 yr old "Kwe-Note" or woman singer (aka: canary to some) from Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. I am of the Namay Dodem (Sturgeon Clan) and I am a Mille Lacs Ojibwe Band Member (Central Minnesota) but I am also a quad. Hannahville Band Potawatomi..lol..I Have been singing for almost 15 yrs now....I started singing with the Rainbow singers when I was around 5 yrs old but that was before they were even known as Rainbow. lol...Back in the day when it was only Lance Teeple and Bill Bouschor...After them I began singing with a traditional drum group called the Bahweting Singers when I was like 6 or 7yrs old. I quit singing with them when I was 14 because they had FALSE-LY accused me of doing drugs....Sadly to say, however, once I quit singing with them; all the 'kwe-notes' did too, as did a few of the guys. From there on out I began going to pow-wows just to 'DRUM HOP' (as does my girl wassay)..Thats where I met some of the best people I know..I already knew Little Otter (Best of the Best) but other then them I was blessed to meet such drum groups as Lake Vermilion (L.V.C. Love ya BOI's!!!), Smokey Town (Wisconsin KINGS and CANARY QUEENS), 5 Mile Creek (always in my heart niij's), ole Red Eagle (miss yas), Red Stone Ojibway (where my heart is), Kingbird, High Noon, White Fish Bay, Little Island Cree, Black Lodge, Bad Axe, White Fish Jrs., Bear Creek, Blue Lake, War Party, Poplar, Bad Medicine, Omaha Nation, Woodland (L.O.S. in cognito..lol..), Mystic River, The Boyz and various others..I am currently a singer with Red Stone Ojibway and we are trying to make our BREAK OUT but as did every other drum group, we are having our hard times and working through it together...My personal life consists of College, Work, my friends and last but not least....MY FAMILY....and some guys here and there...but what Woman doesn't love guys??...HONESTLY????  ANYWAYS...Now that I am going on my 15th year of singing all I can say to the younger generation of 'Kwe-Note' singers is..."Don't be shy...Sing LOUD..Make your Presence heard!! Let the dancers FEEL your voice! Higher doesn't mean better!  If your voice has no POWER behind it then it doesn't matter how HIGH you sing because NOBODY CAN HEAR YOU!!!!!!!!!     POWER is the most important thing for a WOMAN singer to posses and it takes practice so work on it and you'll be fine"....and as we say here UP NORTH...MEEGS
